It was a championship weekend for one team from Vermont.
This past weekend in Smithfield, Rhode Island, the Vermont Glades Squirt team captured the Tier I Regional Championship. With the victory, the Glades became the first Vermont Squirt team and only the third Vermont team to ever win a Tier I Regional tournament. It also marks the first title for the state of Vermont since Barre won the Midget Tier I Regionals back in 1996.

On this special weekend, the Glades opened the tournament with a 2-2 tie against Mid Fairfield. Following a 1-0 loss against the New Hampshire Avalanche, the Glades went on to defeat the Providence Bears by a score of 5-1 to clinch a playoff spot.
In the first playoff game, the Glades faced off against a familiar foe in the New Hampshire Avalanche. The showdown between the two New England Hockey League squads represented the eighth such battle this season! After falling to the Avalanche earlier in the championship, the Glades came through with an exciting 1-0 victory to earn a spot in the championship game.
In that final contest, the Glades captured the championship title by knocking off the always tough Mid Fairfield Blues by a score of 3-1.
Congratulations goes out to the entire Glades team...
